Daily Sketches #1-5

At long last! An update! No school work yet, but I've started doing a "quick" sketch painting every day. Ideally I'd post them daily, and hopefully will for now on. But first, a still life of a fork and a spoon!

This is a fork and a spoon. Obviously, my crowning achievement in metallic rendering.

BF: I think a whitish-brown tint...
Me: GREEN!
BF: Green? That's just silly!
Me:  You tell me to draw a goat with a horn and bird wings... and you draw the line at it being green?
BF: Yes! A green goat is ridiculous!

Luminance

Epona again. This time I remembered her hair color. But I forgot I meant to give her something glowy.  This character is clearly cursed and should be avoided in the future.

Yeah, you may have noticed that there's a little bit of a gap between when I did the first daily and the second. And to that, I say shut up.

113A Projects

This is late, but I finally got around to taking pictures of my projects from Ani 113a.

This is my black and white still life. I posted it as a part of my portfolio previously, but I took a better picture so I thought I'd post it again. I hated this project with a passion, but I did learn a ton from it. This is one of my first traditional paintings. Also, I hate acrylics.

Here's my color grid. I killed myself on it, so I thought I would post it. 

The project I thought was the most fun was the color comps. I hated them at first, but I grew to love them after doing thirteen in a two day period. I wish I'd finished all of them before I picked my color comp for my final. I think I learned a lot about color on this project and this is when I started to learn to paint loosely and light instead of objects. I hate the first comp; I would not choose those colors again. The bad color looks atrocious to me, but for some reason my friends liked it.

Finally: my final. The painting was much easier than I thought it'd be. It wasn't easy, but it didn't frustrate me nearly as much as the black and white painting. You probably can't tell because of the photo, but the paint application is much better in the color painting than the black and white painting. 

My still life tells a story. Can you tell what it is? 

Secret Santa

I made this for my friend Maritza Silva. It's inspired by song she chose from the Hanna soundtrack. I wish I could've spent more time on it, but I do like that it's out of my comfort zone.

Hopefully work from 113a, figure drawings, and my winter sketchbook will be coming soon. I need a camera to photograph my paintings and none of my friends want to share. (you know who you are)

Stage One Complete

Last week I submitted my portfolio to the mid-program portfolio review for San Jose State University's Animation/Illustration B.F.A. program. I passed the review, so I thought I'd post my portfolio! It wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be, but I'm looking forward to spending the winter filling out a sketchbook and officially getting into the program. It'll be fun if I can survive the remainder of the semester.
